Behavioral Health Innovators Graciously Accepts the Duffy Health Center 2018 Community Partner Award for Their Collaboration on RecoveryBUILD Alternative Peer Group for Teens

Image
Thank you to Duffy Health Center for partnering with BHI to make RecoveryBUILD Alternative Peer Group (APG) a reality for teens struggling with substance use challenges. This “APG” provides counseling for teens and their families, with fun social activities, and Peer Recovery Mentors.   At the APG   personalized plans are co-created with the members to help them attain a quality of life that best serves their goals and aspirations without the use of substances and a provides a “warm hand off” to college or the workforce.   Our counselor has conducted over 50 counseling sessions with members and their parents and many, many, community based organizations, as well as, the hospital ERs that are looking for the APG to fill the gap in support for teens. We are honored to accept this award on behalf of the teens whom we support, their friends who are so concerned about them, and their families looking for tools that work to address the impact of teen substance use. Special thanks to Ama

From the bottom of our hearts, we are so grateful to have received the D-Y Youth Force Grant Award. We loved having the time and opportunity to listen to the students and meet with them. Also, a big thank you to the administration and foundation folks who helped us further see the importance of philanthropy and community service from the "student voice". We are thrilled to be a part of all of it!

THAT’S A WRAP!

f you follow BHInnov on social media (and if you don’t you should!) then you know how excited we have been for the APG Open Houses we have hosted. The first Open House was on April 24 th and the second was on May 17 th .   Located at PIER Recovery Center in Hynnis, RecoveryBUID is a peer community where TEENS can build internal and external resources to initiate and maintain recovery from alcohol and drug related issues. Our mission is to provide a fun, safe, and supportive environment that promotes recovery, health and wellness. For those of you who came out you were able to meet our staff, learn about the APG model for teens and you got to see our new space! You can find out flyer online for all of the details about the APG and as always please reach out with questions, comments, tips, advice, or concerns that you have for the APG or for BHI in general. We love to hear from the community and individuals just lie yourself!

Hearing from Kids with Anxiety

You marked your calendars and you came out to have a conversation about the realities of anxiety. We at BHI would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came out to one or all three of the screenings of ANGST followed by a panel discussion. ANGST is a 56- minute film that explores anxiety, its causes and effects, and what we can do about it.   The filmakers’ goal is to have a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. A key learning from the screenings was that parents desperately want to be taught how to teach their kids how to deal with anxiety. They are at a loss but want to help their children and teens. Calmer Choice partnered with us on this project and we were thrilled with the turnout we saw. The screenings took place at Morse Pond School in Falmouth, Monomoy High School in Harwich, and Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. For those of you who missed the events, we are considering holding future screenings and would love to hear from you
Happy May!
